Welcome to Working Out For The Money.
I have decided to create a blog that will serve to motivate those of us who are unemployed with an incentive to do something with our time. I've spent far too much of my time on the dole just sitting around the house online looking for work.
After a full day of doing job searches, I frequently just plop on the couch, and watch some TV, crash at 2am, and then rinse/repeat.
Well, my my idea here is to take the money I'm earning on unemployment and use it to some sort of good for myself.
So, I'm acting as my own bank here. My unemployment funds are automatically deposited into an account, but I'm withdrawing it back out as cash to go deposit into the bank. Instead of this, I've decided to make smaller deposits of my withdrawn funds. I'm going to be "earning" my unemployment so to speak.
What I will do is work out on a system of, for every minute I work out, I earn a dollar of my unemployment to deposit into the bank.
Is it really worth the effort? I think so. I mean, with the benefits I'm collecting now, I kinda earn free money and my work on finding a job is the government's definition of how I earn my money, but it feels to me, like I could be doing a bit more to earn those dollars.
I kinda feel like I owe it to myself and to the government. I mean, they're footing the bill on my job search. Shouldn't I give them a little something more for their time?
So, I weighed myself today. I'm at a nice hefty 314. I'm about to go to the gym here at my apartment and go dive straight in. As I said before, I'm aiming to earn every dollar of my unemployment through working out. So, if I workout for the set amount I earn each week, I need to exercise for roughly 6.5 hours per week. It's definitely daunting, especially given the shape that I'm in, but I need this and it will help. I'll report back in tomorrow with results.
